Umbilical Cord Keepsake

Umbilical cord keepsakes offer a unique way for parents to preserve a tangible reminder of the profound connection between mother and child. Following childbirth, the umbilical cord, which once served as the lifeline between mother and baby, can be carefully preserved and transformed into a meaningful keepsake.

There are various ways to create umbilical cord keepsakes. One of the most popular methods includes shaping the cord into a shape such as a heart, or if long enough, words, and drying to preserve.

We include a Cord Keepsake with every Placenta based order. We can also do a Cord Keepsake as a standalone order for a fee.

If you are getting a Placenta Print, please keep in mind that if you choose to use gel food dye for a colorful print, that it will stain the umbilical cord and it will remain that color permanently as seen above. The cord on the left is my daughter Maeve’s cord, in which I used a deep blue-purple dye for my placenta prints, and the cord on the right is my daughter Kaiya’s, which is the natural color. The natural cord is really neat because you can still see the vessels inside. You can also do a half and half Placenta Print in which we just use the residual blood for the cord print, and only use dye on the placenta to keep the cord its natural color.
